Ice Skating
October 19, 2009
Amelia started ice skating lessons a few weeks ago…

That’s Amelia with her cousin Daniel above. They’re in the same lesson group.

We were invited by Amelia’s friend Faith (in the pink hat). Her family heard about this ice skating opportunity for home schoolers. We go on Tuesday mornings for an hour. Each student gets a 15-minute group lesson at some point in the hour, and 45 minutes of free skate.

Amelia loves it–she keeps saying she likes it better than dance class and is always asking when we can go again.

Our friend Andy was in town–he played the tuba in our wedding. He is in an Air Force band out of Massachusetts and they were in town for a concert. We spent some time with him at the Fox’s house and Amelia was introduced to “Hungry Hungry Hippo.” It was a hit!

The next night we went to his concert. We have seen a few of them before, but this one had some memorable numbers. There’s Andy standing by the flag. We played percussion together in college.

Amelia listens. That’s Grandma Sharon next to her. Miki attended as well, plus the Fox’s and many others. Andy had many fans in attendance!

School.

Aww… I love the ones of her with her cousin!!!
Ice skating lessons sound like fun. Looks like you have lots of great stuff going on. That’s great that Amelia liked the concert. Has she started playing instruments yet? (if so, pictures would be nice as well as video???) Do you do school work downstairs now?
Dear Amelia,
Ice skating was one of my favorite things too but we did it on ponds and lakes. We carried our skates laces tied together over our shoulders. We’d walk to the pond and often there would be a fire or a small warm shack to sit in so you could put your skates on and off there and try to keep our feet warmer.
Sometimes my dad (your great, great granddad, would go with us and we would form a line with dad first. He would open his coat to the wind like a sail and after we picked up speed, he’d make a sharp turn on the ice and the last person would swing way out and sometimes lose his grip on the person in front of him. We called this “the Whip”. It was great fun
When your Grandma Celeste was young I used to go skating with her, Aunt Dulcie and Uncles David and John at Paisley’s pond.
Once when David’s family visited we all went to a rink in Jamestown and
Emmanuel, Natasha and Vanessa were surprised that Grandpa and I could
skate.
