Round-Up 2009
August 25, 2009
Round-Up is our favorite week at Camp Li-Lo-Li!! Ben started out as a camper at that session when he was 12, we took notice of each other during Round-Up as teenagers, we were both counselors for several years, and this was his third year as assistant director. He writes the skits and this year played a Robinson Crusoe-type character…

A quintet of our staff director, security, assistant director, director, and one of our speakers.

Amelia had another great week in Bunny Camp (a separate program for children of staff who are too young to be campers). Here she is with her best buddy Faith (Faith’s mom was the bunny camp director).

Four of our counselors (we were privileged to have 3 married couples on the counseling staff this year!).

Our toad-catcher!

This year we had 75 campers (ages 11-16), 13 counselors, and lots of other great staff, including Ben’s mom as secretary.
One morning we had the skit and message at the lake instead of in the chapel.

We had two or three very hot days followed by some very warm days, and two days with a LOT of RAIN!!

One of my favorite shots from the week…Dave (a counselor) and Caleb (one of Faith’s brothers) enjoying the thunderstorm:

Rainbow (if you can’t see it it’s at about 12 o’clock to 4 o’clock)

Pies in the face are one of those unexplainable camp traditions. Here you see Pam, our head cook, giving a pie in the face to our new administrator, Terry, and on his birthday no less!

Another skit:

Pictured here you have a tent, filled with giant helium balloons, floating over the lake like a kite. Just Larry’s latest prank on Beth.

Moving Day for the Williard’s. These two couples live at Camp and manage the property year-round. The couple on the left (Jeff & Ginger) are moving after 5 years and 2 weeks of living at Camp. They will be missed! They are also the couple who bought our Camry. The couple on the right (Larry & Helen) are staying on and it is Larry who put the tent over the lake!

Amelia getting ready for a trail ride…no one could convince her that she didn’t have to wear her sweatshirt in 93 degree weather! The rule is long pants and tie shoes or boots on the horses…she thought long sleeves were also required, and she was so hot!!

Amelia and I do not fit together in the saddle anymore (we are both bigger than this time a year ago!!), so I got to ride bareback behind the saddle!!

Putting her helmet away…such a sad chore!

The balloons from inside the tent…our director had the great idea to attach postcards to them saying return to Camp Li-Lo-Li and write where you found it…then each team got to release one!

Faith (with help from her mom Shona) gave a pie in the face to her uncle Eric. He decided to share!

My favorite shot from the skits:

Another favorite picture from the week…3 of the 6 Brooks siblings! I grew up going to camp with Diane & Dorothy. They were counselors for us this week (along with their husbands), and their brother Darrin was our maintenance chief.

Next I’m posting all the cabin pictures so you can see the campers and counselors we serve!

The Camping Group (these guys sleep in tents and cook many of their own meals!!), led by Eric & Beth with Steve & Heather as counselors:

And last but not least, the bunnies, led by Shona and her sister Alex:

Hope you’ve enjoyed this small sampling of the 440 pictures we took at Round-Up!! Let’s see…48 out of 440…that’s only 10%, right??
I like the mask pic of Amelia!!! Very cute!
I like Ben as a pirate.
Maybe I’ll have to come to Round-Up next summer, instead of Teen!
Don’t let Becki hear you say that!!
What was the guest speakers name? I was there for camp but I forgot.
