4th of July & Beyond

We began our 4th of July weekend by having Amelia’s stitches out Thursday evening.  Dr. Morehouse is the same guy who delivered her.  We like his old-school magnifying glasses (below)!!   Half of it healed really well, but the other half opened back up–the stitches underneath did not dissolve and were poking through the incision, so he had to pull them out–painful!   He put several steri-strips over the open half and said to keep the ace bandage on her and still no running or getting it wet.   Dissolvable stitches never dissolve in me either, so I wasn’t too surprised.

Amelia went to VBS with her friend Faith all week and spent Friday afternoon with her as well.  When we picked her up, we went to the beach.

If you look closely, you can see a yellow rope indicating we shouldn’t go in the water.

I somehow captured an optical illusion…it’s a raised heart & arrow, but it looks like it’s sunken in the picture.

No shortage of sea gulls!

Amelia collected feathers and found a rubber ducky!

Friday night we went to the Dinosaur BBQ with Miki, a locally famous place.  We have really been missing out!

I like how under “Things We Don’t Do” it says “Sing Happy Birthday.”  What a relief!!

The BBQ is right on the river, so we took a look after.  Amelia looks like she’s enjoying some coffee, but it’s her leftovers!

Saturday afternoon we went to a local festival.

Ben tries a deep-fried twinkie…

It burned the back of his throat–he thinks the filling was too hot and that they should freeze them before deep-frying.

After the festival, we sealed our fence and then had a picnic supper.

Amelia was thrilled to see Esther, who now lives in Florida with her husband.  Also in the crowd that night were three of Esther’s brothers.

I think that’s enough pictures for now, don’t you?

  1. Cute pic of you and Miki, and I like the one of you of the 3 of you at the fireworks! We have a beach here called Turtle Beach, and there are tons of turtles all over it. You can walk right up to them, swim with them, etc., you’re just not supposed to touch them. Oh, and deep fried twinkies…gross!! :)

  2. Love all the pics. You guys have been busy! The ones of us came out pretty good.

  3. I’m so glad you said “Putt-Putting.” No one here knows what that is. It’s called “miniature golfing” here. I guess we get Putt-Putt from the fact that that was the actual NAME of the place in Jamestown when we were kids…Putt-Putt Golf. So, anyway :) It made me smile to know that I’m not TOTALLY off my rocker :) I always love looking at your pictures. Your family gets to do some great things together!

  4. The comment you got from “Tucson Cigar” is actually me…that’s my hubby’s wordpress account. Sorry.

  5. They call it putt-putt in Hawaii too…

  6. Hey! You o to Dr. Morehouse? So do the Fillions! (I think!)

  7. yes, we’ve often run into them there.

  8. Wow, what a busy couple of days! Lots of great pics! Local restaurants have such character, don’t they? The optical illusion is amazing. Nice of you to take Amelia to a beach where you can’t swim since she couldn’t anyway. How did Amelia do at putt-putt? I’ve been wondering if Elijah would enjoy it as something special with his daddy (or mommy and daddy).
