A Kid, a Cow, and a Convenience Store.
May 26, 2006I’m sick of writing so I’ll just post some pictures today.
This little girl was playing with a stack of newspapers.

This cow was near an intersection with a main road. I don’t really know why its horns are painted, I can only assume that it has aspirations of being a stoplight in its next life.

I call this one “open for business”

Tomorrow the guys I’m working with will be taking me to Mamallapuram and maybe some temples. I will be sure to have many pictures.
Cool. So you’re going sight-seeing for the Memorial Day Weekend? Too bad your visit didn’t intersect any Indian holidays.
Perhaps the painted horns has something to do with its protected status?
I’ll be working Monday. I negotiated with my boss to take an extra day off when I get home.
I believe it’s common in India to decorate your cow. Sometimes it is with paint but the horns are a harkening back to some Maatu Pongal holy cow ancient ritual thing…

My american host here told me that the colors don’t mean anything, and that It was probably painted for a recent festival. It’s not the festival for the cows but they are prominent. They also put paint hand print on the dogs.
